School History

1917 Nan Hua Girls' School


The school was started by a group of Chinese businessmen, initiated by Mr Xiong Shangfu, an educator, at Coleman Street.


侨领暨教育家熊尚父先生发起,联同一群华商创办了
<<南华女学校>>,校址在哥里门街

1918

The school moved to Bencoolen Street

学校搬迁到明古连街


1924

The school closed down due to lack of funds

因经费不足停办


1928

The school reopened

学校复办


1939

A branch school was set up in Middle Road.

在密鸵律增设分校


1941

A new school was built at Adis Road. The main school was called Nan Hua Girls' High while the  school at Bencoolen Street was name Nan Hua Girls' High (Branch).


1945

The main school reopened after WWII.

二战结束,正校复办

1946

The branch school reopened

Recipient of award – Mdm Ding Baozhen, a primary six pupil in 1946 The first batch of graduands after the Japanese Occupation.

1956

The main school was known as Nan Hwa Girls’ High School.

正校定名为<<南华女子中学校>>

The branch school was separated from the main school.

1962

A new school building was erected along Bencoolen Street.

1964

The branch school was named Nan Hwa Primary School and in the same year, it became co-ed and took in both boys and girls.

分校改称<<南华小学>>

1972

English became the medium of instruction for Mathematics and Science subjects.

数学与科学改用英文教学

1978

The school offered both Chinese and English streams classes

1979

The school started pre-primary classes

The pre-primary classes in 1979.


1983

The main and branch schools moved into one compound in Clementi Avenue 1. The school became an English medium school offering Malay, Tamil and Chinese as mother tongue languages.

正校与分校迁至金文泰一道的新校舍。正式以英文为第一语文,而华文、马来文及淡米尔文为第二语文.

1989

The school became a Special Assistance Plan School.

1992

The school ceased to offer preparatory (pre-primary) classes.

1995

The school was one of the six selected schools involved in the AITP (Accelerating the Use of Information Technology in the Primary Schools) Programme.

The school became an IT Demonstration School.

1998 (November)

The school was relocated to Jalan Lempeng and started Gifted Education (GE) classes.

学校迁至惹兰仑平30 号,同时设立高材班

The school underwent PRIME (PRogramme for IMproving Existing Schools)

The school attained the SQC (Singapore Quality Class) Award and the People Developer Standard

The school also embarked on its bi-culturalism journey and pupils were involved in an exchange programme to Dalian, China for the first time.

2007


The school offered GE programme pupils an alternative experience – the P4 Twinning programme whereby the GE programme and mainstream pupils come together for lessons in the non-core subjects, giving the former greater opportunity to interact with classmates from the mainstream.

Nan Hua Primary School which was founded in 1917, celebrates her 90th Anniverary. Nan Hua is honoured to have his Excellancy, President of the Republic of Singapore S.R. Nathan gracing this very special day.
